The Event
At the beginning of 2026, the Socio-Cultural Cooperative, which manages the services of the P. Ragazzoni Civic Library, in collaboration with the Marostica Municipal Administration, launched the first edition of the "Young Talents in Marostica" competition. The goal was to promote the new International Chess Museum Giovanni Longo - Città di Marostica.
The competition invited young people aged 14 to 20 to create an artistic work on the theme "Marostica, City of Chess".
The initiative was enthusiastically received by schools in the area and nearby regions, collecting a total of 50 artistic submissions.
The first prize was awarded to Elena Bisello, a student at the IIS Meucci - Fanoli in Cittadella, for her work, which demonstrated exceptional technical skill, graphic awareness, and intuitive compositional perspective.
Her piece perfectly aligned with the theme, creating a strong emotional impact on the viewer through the gaze of Lionora, the beautiful daughter of the Venetian governor Taddeo Parisio. Lionora was the object of contention between the two suitors, Vieri da Vallonara and Rinaldo d’Angarano, in the historic 1454 Chess Game.
Using a simple tool like a ballpoint pen and a bichromatic rendering with chiaroscuro effects, Elena’s work captured the attention of the judging panel.
The second prize, awarded by the judging panel, was given to Rachele Furlan, also from the IIS Meucci - Fanoli in Cittadella, for her work, which clearly and intuitively expressed the identity of Marostica through its castle and city walls, the "doglione" and the cherry.
Eleven other works were recognized for their original interpretation of the theme, immediate communicative impact, effective use of color, excellent technical mastery, unique composition, playful or ironic approach, skillful graphic rendering, and creative lettering.
