Municipality of Marostica

An Accessible Museum

The museum is pleased to welcome and facilitate visits for people with disabilities as much as possible. For this reason, it has been designed to provide an inclusive experience for all visitors through structural adaptations and specific services dedicated to accessibility.

Building Accessibility

The museum is located on the ground floor of the Lower Castle of Marostica, situated opposite Piazza Castello.
The building spans three floors: the International Chess Museum Giovanni Longo – City of Marostica is on the ground floor; the Costume Museum of the Living Chess Game is on the first floor; the attic floor is currently unused. From the attic, visitors can access the castle’s walkway.
Inside the building, there is also the keep (mastio), which extends over seven floors.
Access to the Lower Castle is from Piazza Castello.

Public Parking
Reserved parking spaces for vehicles with disabled permits are available in Piazza Castello, Via Quattro Novembre, and Viale Stazione.

Access Ramps*
Ramps facilitate entry and mobility within the castle for people with mobility difficulties or those using wheelchairs.
A short ramp connects Piazza Castello to the Lower Castle to overcome the level difference.
A second ramp, located under the entrance portico, allows access to the ticket office (after passing through the main gate, go under the front arch toward the castle’s inner courtyard; the ramp is on the right). If needed, visitors can ring a bell before passing through the arch to alert staff.

Elevator
The elevator is located at the entrance of the International Chess Museum and connects the various floors of the castle, from the ground floor to the first and second floors, allowing access to all these levels. For historical and architectural reasons, the elevator does not reach the keep or the walkway.

Museum Accessibility

Access Ramps*: Inside the International Chess Museum, small level differences between rooms are easily overcome thanks to short connecting ramps that allow visitors to comfortably explore the collection.

Services for Visitors

Audio Guide App*
Available for all visitors to download on their own smartphones, this app offers audio content in both Italian and English. It explains how to experience the International Chess Museum, shares the history of the game, and describes some of the exhibited works. The app can be downloaded by scanning the QR code found at the museum entrance, in various rooms, or directly from the museum brochure available at the ticket office.

Tactile Maps*
Two tactile maps allow visitors to explore the castle’s exhibition route through touch, aiding orientation for people with visual impairments. The first map is located under the portico on the ground floor near the entrance to the International Chess Museum and shows the floor plan of the ground floor. The second map is on the first floor, in front of the entrance door to the Living Chess Costume Museum, and shows the floor plan of the first floor.

Video with Italian Sign Language (LIS)*
For visitors with hearing impairments, the museum provides a video interpreted in Italian Sign Language, available at the ticket office entrance, offering orientation and visitor information.
